The system for determining absolute ages by thermoluminescence and optical stimulation is part of a complex system of investigations specific to geosciences, ensuring the insertion of the TIMP element in the complex analysis of geological and pedological sediments - facility offered by the Laboratory for Non-Destructive Analysis of Sediments and Soils - , an important element in the diagnosis of the Quaternary evolution of the geographical environment, with a major impact on the ways of predictability of its evolution and its component elements. In addition, looking at things through the prism of the research performances offered by the complexity and complementarity of these laboratories, the TL-OSL work system is very useful in establishing, for example, the evolution cycles of the degree of loading of soils and superficial crust with various pollutants. The Freiberg Instruments LEXSYGSMART system comprises a TL/OSL reader, which is an advanced platform for automated measurement of thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) signals. The system is widely used for the determination of radiation doses in natural and man-made materials with applications in geological, pedological and archaeological dating, forensic and accidental dosimetry and radiation protection.
