The CICS-UBI (Health Sciences Research Center) animal facilities comprise areas for breeding and experimentation, with rooms for rats and mice equipped with individually ventilated cages. The experimentation area includes rooms and equipment dedicated to behavioral studies: video tracking system (ANY-Maze), Automated Cage Phenotyping with Open field, Operant Wall and Running Wheels (Phenomaster - TSE Systems), Rotarod, Horizontal rung ladder, and Barnes Maze.
The room dedicated to surgical procedures is equipped with a Volatile Anesthesia system, recovery chamber, stereotaxic apparatus with an automated stereotaxic injector (Stoelting), and a stereomicroscope (Zeiss). These facilities have an established Animal Welfare Body (ORBEA, Órgão de Bem-Estar e Ética Animal) and are licensed by the National Authorities.
